Right off the bat, I should be forthcoming and admit that this is a completely biased interview, because I, along with thousands of others I’m sure, have been sold on the fabulosity of the lovely Miss Teal Wicks for many, many years now! I don’t even know how many times I’ve seen her take to the stage, but there is one thing that’s for sure – there are just some people that were meant to be performers, and she is one of them. It’s been truly incredible and inspiring to see her achieve the things she has so far in her sure-to-be-long and amazing career. Teal is currently in the Broadway production of “Wicked,” in which she plays the green witch – Elphaba! I mean, get serious, how cool would it be to get painted green and fly around on a broom every single day??? OK, it’s not that simple, but still…it’s pretty freakin’ cool!
Moreover, I don’t care if you hate musical theater or think it’s simply not for you; if you ever, and I mean EVER, have the opportunity to see this show and you don’t enjoy it, I’ll give you twenty bucks.
In honor of my friend Teal’s birthday today, I give you a fun interview with the extraordinary lady, who, in case you missed the memo, was just voted as the hottest woman on Broadway. While this whole hot thing is awesome, I must say, she’s much more than that!
INTERVIEW
JOSLYN: Teal, what was your reaction to winning the HOT award?
TEAL: My reaction to winning the HOT award was surprise, a giant giggle, and a whole lot of awkwardness. It’s hard for me to handle accolades like that- I like to do really good work and inhabit characters, but I feel pretty goofy as myself.
JOSLYN: What would you say is your career highlight so far?
TEAL: Career highlight – my Broadway debut! It was amazing to step on to that Broadway stage in a role I have been invested in for so long, to see and hear the audience and have complete confidence in what I was doing. I relished every moment, it was an exhilarating ride!
JOSLYN: Tons of famous celebrities go to Broadways shows. Who is the coolest/most memorable one you’ve met?
TEAL: There have been a lot of cool celebs at the show, but usually they are trying to get out of the theatre so fast I don’t get to meet them. But some of the memorable moments were meeting Linda Blair and sharing the trials and tribulations of being ‘green girls’ (she had her own scary green makeup in The Exorcist- yikes!) and a very strange, almost scary, encounter with Andy Dick barging into my dressing room and saying inappropriate things to fellow cast-mate Joanne Worley as we were trying to watch the Tony Awards after our show.
JOSLYN: Who would you say would be your dream person to collaborate with, and in what show?
TEAL: My dream show would be starring in a Movie-Musical with completely original music about a cross-country roadtrip with Ryan Gosling, Jenny Lewis and Audra McDonald. Haha, what a mash-up of talent!
Here’s a super silly picture of Teal, me and our friend Erin recently that I think is super cute! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEAL 🙂
