Understanding Rap (Suitable For Your Grandma)

Question: When a popular rap or hip hop song comes on, do you ever find yourself dancing and singing along without any clue as to what the lyrics mean? If you’re being totally honest with yourself, then the answer is yes. In that case my friends, well, today is your lucky day. Author-slash-genius William Buckholz, penned a sure classic with his book Understand Rap: Explanations of Confusing Rap Lyrics You and Your Grandma Can Understand. The book is entertaining, useful, and you’ll probably be way cooler if you read it.

For example, have you ever wondered what exactly Big Pun meant when he rapped “I’m not a player, I just crush a lot?” Or are you baffled by 50Cent’s track “21 Questions” which has him rapping “I love you like fat kid love cake?”

The book answers those questions and many, many more. And, for the record, even my grandma signed off on this one. She’s pretty rad like that.

Lastly, I’ve gotta give props to my fave hop hop goddess Tatiana Carrier for gifting me this awesome work of literature.
