Why Road Trips Rock

It’s no secret that during my off-time, there’s nothing I love more than travelling, and one of my favorite pastimes is a good old fashioned, last-minute road trip. Beware, this specific (fly by the seat of your pants) style of travel is not for everyone. So, if you’re the type of person who has to have every moment of the day planned out to be able to enjoy yourself and relax, well, this likely isn’t for you. I love road-tripping, especially without plans, because absolutely anything can happen; and that anything includes the good, the bad, and the sometimes the ugly.

I recently went on a California road trip that was planned approximately 3 minutes in advance. I was born, raised and continue to live in California, but I constantly find new places and things to do throughout the gigantic state. One of my favorite things to do on an impromptu excursion is stop whenever I feel the urge to do so. For example, see below…I have no clue where these photos were taken or why I jumped out of the car, but I did and this is what central California looks like (I wish this photo better depicted the 100+ degree heat).

Living in LA, I also always forget that California is agriculture central. Peep this vineyard shot. Wine anyone?

There are also tons of great farmer’s markets off the highways in California. Oddly, this was the first time I’d ever stopped, and I’m so glad I did. We bought a TON (and mean a TON) of produce and it was about 10-bucks!

Admittedly, there are a few downsides to road tripping with zero planning. First off, sometimes you have to stay in sketchy locales (see below), but it’s all about the experience and making memories, right? I mean, that’s what Tim Riggins would say.

ADVICE: Always have snacks. You never know where or when your next stop will be. I loved testing out Starbucks’ new green juice – yum!
